14 months after they were purchased, tractors ‘donated’ by the office of the president have finally arrived in Morobo, and local officials are keen to put them to use. There’s just one problem: bad roads.
Morobo has finally received a consignment of four tractors, original purchased in a deal brokered by the Office of the President over a year ago.
One tractor is retained in Yei for repairs and the remaining three are to be made immediately available to “cooperatives and serious farmers”, according to Toti Jacob, Morobo county commissioner.
Agriculture potential is high in Morobo, but poor infrastructure makes getting goods to market impossible for farmers in the majority of Morobo’s bomas. Nevertheless, local officials are keen to kickstart large scale agricultural projects in the area.
